Sophomore Josie Nies scores on this drive during Plattevilles 6332 win over Prairie du Chien Friday night. She finished with seven points and five rebounds.

It was more of the same for the top-ranked Platteville girls basketball team last week.

The Hillmen scored 47 points in the first half of Tuesday’s non-conference game with Mineral Point and cruised to an easy 64–35 victory.

Friday night, Southwest Wisconsin Conference rival put up a better fight, but host Platteville blew open a close game with an 18–3 second-half run as the home team pulled away for another easy 63–32 victory.

The scrappy young Blackhawks (2–5, 1–2), who played four freshmen and a sophomore extensive minutes Friday night, hung with the mighty Hillmen until Platteville’s constant full court pressure began to wear on the visitors from Prairie du Chien.

Sophomore Becca Hoyer, who was a thorn in PdC’s side all night drawing three offensive fouls, scored on a breakaway layup with 6:15 left in the opening half to make it 13–9 and ignite a 15–4 Platteville run.

Seniors Sami Knockel and Skye Digman scored back-to-back buckets in the paint, then after a jumper by Prairie freshman MacKenzie Knapp, Digman scored on a drive to the hoop to make it 21–11.

Sophomore Sami Martin split a pair of free throws and classmate Josie Nies scored on a driving layup and Hoyer capped the run with a layup on a nice feed from senior Rachel Bailie with 33 seconds left in the half.

Platteville slowly pulled away early in the second half, but a 3-pointer by freshman Ella Hager cut the deficit to 14 at 43–29 with just over 10 minutes to play, before the Platteville avalanche began.

Sophomore Izzy Carroll sandwiched a layup and a pair of free throws around a Digman three-point play and Platteville outscored the Blackhaws 18-3 over the next seven minutes.

Bailie’s layup with three minutes left made it 61–32.

Digman finished with 22 points and four rebounds. Martin added 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Carroll also grabbed seven points to go with her four points.

Hoyer finished with eights points (and five rebounds and three assists), as did Knockel. Nies added seven points and a team-high five assists.

Last Tuesday, Martin posted a double–double of 17 points and 14 rebounds in the rout of Mineral Point. Digman finished with 16 points, eight rebounds and three assists. Hoyer added 12 points and three steals, and Nies chipped in 11 points and five assists.

NEXT: Platteville will now face Living World Lutheran next Wednesday at 8:15 and will then host Barneveld on Thursday, Dec. 28 at 1:30 as part of the three-day Platteville Holiday Jamboree.
