At the Kiwanis meeting ...
Antlers

Recent speakers to the Platteville Kiwanis Club were Tim Zauche (left) of UW–Platteville’s Chemistry Department, and Kathy Kopp, executive director of the Platteville Regional Chamber. Zauche described the sunflower project that occupied a former alfalfa field west of Menard’s last summer. The project entailed planting, growing and harvesting the sunflowers, then pressing the oil from the seeds and bottling it for sale locally at Driftless Market. Kopp spoke on the Community Leadership Alliance, now in its 15th year, a collaboration by the chamber, UW–Platteville’s Office of Continuing Education, and the UW–Extension offices of Grant, Iowa and Lafayette counties. The leadership development effort has had more than 400 graduates; its current six-month session is serving 33 students.
