After 40 years of practicing dentistry at his East Bluff Street clinic, Dr. Larry Clark retired on Aug. 1. It’s been a long and satisfying career, one that bears looking back on.

Larry Clark was born in Boscobel, but at the age of eight he and his parents moved to a small town in northwest Iowa. After graduating from college, he enrolled in the University of Iowa School of Dentistry, graduating in 1976.

Dr. Clark’s first job was in Eau Claire, but after a year he longed to open his own practice.

“I was looking around and actually wanted to go to northern Wisconsin because I love to hunt and fish,” he recalls. “My uncle, Harold Shipley, told me there was a practice in Boscobel that was for sale. So I came down and took a look, and decided to come back to my hometown. You can actually hunt and fish longer in the season here than you can in northern Wisconsin.”
