Montchevre sells to Saputo, Inc.
Montchevre370
MONTCHEVRE WAS founded in 1989 by Arnaud Solandt and Jean Rossard. It began as a small operation in a 4,000 square-foot former cheddar plant in Preston. More than twenty-five years later, Montchevre is the leading goat cheese producer in the United States.

In a prepared statement, Montchevre owner, Arnaud Solandt, announces the pending sale of the Belmont company to Saputo, Inc., a Canadian corporation. The statement is as follows:
We are pleased to announce that today Nov. 1, 2017, Montchevre has entered into a sale and purchase agreement with Saputo Inc. Though this has been difficult and emotional for us, after much discussion and evaluation, Sophie and I have come to the conclusion that this is the right decision for Montchevre and for our family. Jean and Helene Rossard are in complete agreement with our decision as well.
The decision to proceed with the sale of the company we’ve built is not a selfish one. It is based on the conviction that this alliance will provide a stronger, more secure market for our 500+ milk producers and will help propel Montchevre to new heights. For the past 20 years Montchevre has been the leading goat cheese manufacturer in North-America. Our success was built on our unique relationship with all of our milk producers. Many of these relationships started in our early years and today we take great pride in calling our producers our friends. As the milk they produce flows through our plant like the blood in our veins, we will forever be grateful to our producers, as we know none of our successes would have been possible without their hard work and dedication to quality.
We hired our very first employee in 1990. Today we have a team of 320 that is nothing short of an extension of our family. The dedication of our employees, their attention to detail, and their passion for a job well done is humbling. We’d like to express our gratitude and sincere thank you to the entire #teamchevre family. We are pleased to be partnering with a company that embraces the same values we do, as well as rewards hard work and will create new opportunities for our team.
Our customers are ambassadors of our brand and have made our success possible. We have developed some very special bonds, which we look forward to maintaining and sharing with our new partners. We’d like to thank our customers for partnering with us and for putting their trust in our work and our products. Montchevre and Saputo share a passion for quality, which will not be compromised. We are confident that our customers will benefit from a broader logistics platform and some improved production capacity.
Montchevre has worked with Saputo for many years and together we have enjoyed many successes. We have grown fond of Saputo’s ethics and their commitment to quality. It is their vision for the future that has led us to this decision. There will be some logical integration of our businesses and Montchevre will become the flagship of Saputo’s Goat Cheese Division. Jean Rossard will remain the plant manager in Belmont and I will act as a senior advisor assisting in the development of the Saputo Goat Cheese Division.
We look forward to continuing to work with all of our milk producers, employees, and customers. Before we start a new chapter in the story of Montchevre, Jean and I would like to extend most sincere thank you to everyone that has been a part of our amazing journey.
Sincerely,
Arnaud Solandt
