Alcohol involved crash on Hwy. 78 ends in fatality

ARGYLE – One person is dead from a two vehicle head-on crash on Wisconsin 78 south near Hillcrest Road outside of Argyle on Saturday, Aug. 26.
Patrick Calhoun, 72 of Dodgeville, was pronounced at the scene when his pickup truck was struck head-on by a vehicle driven by Mary E. Bernet, 34 of Argyle.
According to the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office, Calhoun was driving south on 78 when Bernet’s truck crossed the centerline into Calhoun’s lane. Bernet and her passenger, Aaron C. Bernet, 38 of Argyle, were transported by Ambulance to the Monroe Hospital with undetermined injuries.
Mary Bernet was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated at the hospital by Lafayette County Deputies. She was then transported by ambulance to UW Hospital in Madison. Further chargers are pending the conclusion of the investigation.
Lafayette County Sheriff’s Deputies were assisted at the scene by Argyle Fire, Argyle EMS, Blanchardville EMS, Green County EMS, Wisconsin State Patrol Reconstruction Team, and the Lafayette County Coroner’s Office. 
Wisconsin 78 was detoured for about four hours after the crash.
Calhoun is the third fatality in Lafayette County this year.
