Grant County Circuit Court Judge Robert VandeHey ordered a competency examination for 31-year-old Renae Bellis when she appeared for her arraignment Monday morning. She will be next appear in court Sept. 12 for a status conference.

Bellis is charged with First Degree Reckless Homicide in the July 9 death of her 14-week-old infant daughter at their Boscobel home. An autopsy revealed that the girl died of blunt force trauma. Bellis allegedly told investigators that she was “kind of depressed and took it out” on the baby.
