At press time, thousands of people have watched an online video that appears to show a Richland County male youth abusing a wounded deer.

A Richland Center High School female student saw the video and was appalled and so she posted the video to Facebook in the hopes that action would be taken.

This in turn led to excerpts of the video being shown on at least one Madison TV news segment  –  WMSN Channel 47.

The clip shown on TV showed a male youth astride what appeared to be a wounded deer. Not shown, but mentioned, was that the video also shows the removal of a deer fetus, with a caption stating, “Found out the deer I shot yesterday was actually 2 of em (sic) lmao.” (lmao is an abbreviation for “laughing my [rear end] off.”)

The RCHS student who posted the video agreed to be interviewed on camera for the news segment and said she found the situation to be disgusting.

According to the Channel 47 news brief, Richland County Sheriff James Bindl is aware of the incident and will speak with Richland County District Attorney Jennifer Harper to determine if the actions depicted on video are criminal. Neither Bindl nor Harper were available for comment at press time.

Richland County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Chad Kanable states that the Department of Natural Resources is conducting the initial investigation.
