A 34-year-old Gays Mills man was arrested on multiple charges on Saturday, Jan. 5, following an earlier citizen’s report that an intoxicated driver might be endangering young children riding in his vehicle.

The Crawford County Sheriff’s Department became aware of the situation when they received a call from a concerned citizen on Friday night, Jan. 4, according to Crawford County Sheriff Dale McCullick.

An investigating sheriff’s deputy was told by the reporting party that a man and woman were driving with two young children and that the driver appeared to be intoxicated.

A deputy later spotted the identified vehicle and stopped it in Gays Mills around 2 a.m. on Saturday. The driver, Robert M. Dolezal, 34, Gays Mills, was intoxicated, according to the arresting officer.

The Crawford County Sheriff’s Department reported Dolezal was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and operating after revocation. Dolezal also had seven outstanding warrants from Vernon, Grant, Richland and Crawford Counties.

The woman in the car with Dolezal was released without arrest.  The sheriff’s department also learned that the children, who were in the car earlier, were safe and staying with relatives. The case was being referred to Crawford County Human Services, according to the sheriff’s department.

Assisting the Crawford County Sheriff's Department were Crawford County Human Services and Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital.
