Hillsboro Police Department K9 Unit Teagan was among the canine officers participating in a drug sweep Feb. 11 at middle and high schools in Brookwood and Cashton.

Monroe County Sheriff Scott Perkins said the checks were conducted at the request of school officials in an effort to keep drugs out of their schools.

No drugs were found at the schools.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office in Sparta does not have a K-9 unit at present, so they were assisted by K-9 units from other departments.

Also participating in the drug sweep were K-9 units from the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office in Viroqua and the Sparta Police Department.

Periodic checks at schools are a way to help deter drug use on school grounds.
