One dies, four injured in accident outside of Lancaster
Counselors available Thanksgiving, Monday

UPDATED - 4:25 p.m. Oct. 22 - On the afternoon prior to Thanksgiving at approximately 4:42pm, one Lancaster teen died in a motor vehicle accident along Liberty Ridge Rd in Liberty Township, south of the Village of Stitzer.

Morgan Hoehne, 16, of Lancaster, was driving on Liberty Ridge when she lost control of the vehicle, causing a rollover.The preliminary investigation shows that speed is a contributing factor and alcohol does not appear to be involved.

Killed in the accident was MaKayla Hore, 15, of Lancaster.The investigation also shows that MaKayla Hore was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The conditions of the remaining passengers range from stable to critical but stable. They have been
identified as Jena Hore, 17, Lancaster, Nathaniel Tranel, 15, Lancaster, and Kindra Yoose, 14, also of
Lancaster. The use of safety belts for the remaining passengers and the driver are unknown at this time. All of the
surviving victims were transported to Grant Regional Health Center and then air lifted to UW Hospitals and
Clinics in Madison by either Med Flight or Med Link.

Hoehne remains in UW Hospitals in stable condition.

According to Sheriff Nate Dreckman the investigation into the accident continues.

UPDATE 10 a.m. Counselors will be available for students dealing with the loss of one of their peers, and four others who are in the hospital in critial condition due to a fatal car accident that took place the afternoon before Thanksgiving  north of Lancaster.

Lancaster High School Principal Mark Uppena state that school counselor Tom Hughey will be available to help with the emotions of this tragic event all day Thursday. 

Hughey noted that school staff supported students, family and community members at the hospital and at various residences throughout the evening following the tragic accident.  Counseling services are being made available 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Lancaster High School to anyone who would like to come in. "In addition, we will be monitoring students and providing counseling services throughout next week as needed," Hughey said.

"We will also have counselors available all day Monday to help students throughout this difficult time," Uppena added midnight on Thanksgiving.

Original Post - From the Grant County Sheriff's Department - on 11-21-12 at approximately 4:42pm, the Grant County Sheriff’s department received a report of a one vehicle crash with entrapment on Liberty Ridge Rd in Liberty Township, south of the Village of Stitzer. As a result of the crash, a 15 year old female passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Grant County Coroner.

 

The driver and four passengers are students at Lancaster High School.

Assisting the Grant County Sheriff Department was the Wisconsin State Patrol, Lancaster Fire and EMS departments, Fennimore EMS, Liberty/Stitzer Fire department, Grant County Coroner and the Lancaster Police Department.
