July 4th celebrations light up Lafayette County

    Independence Day brought all kinds of fun to the communities of Shullsburg and Wiota over the July 4th weekend.
    Shullsburg celebrated their 4th of July event from Wednesday, July 2 through Friday, July 4 while Wiota held their annual fireman’s celebration from Thursday, July 3 to Sunday, July 6.
    The newest event at the Wiota celebration, the 5K Color Fun Run/Walk, was quite popular with over 100 participants.
    Wiota raffle winners were also recently announced as 1st place being Dave Thoreson from Woodford, 2nd place being Cara Carper from Wiota and 3rd place being Gabe Nelson from South Wayne.
    In Shullsburg parade winners were also recently announced, with most original going to Reilly Plumbing and Heating. In the business category Kingsleys Crossing was 1st, Subway was 2nd and A Kut Above was 3rd.
    In the organization category the Evangelical Church was 1st, the Shullsburg Conservation Club was 2nd and the Girl Scouts was 3rd. For the family category the Gill Family was 1st, the Curtis Family was 2nd and the Kraus Family was 3rd.
