The fourth annual Vernon County Sheriff’s Office 5-K-9 Run/Walk and Kids Fun Run will be held at the sheriff’s office, 1320 Bad Axe Ct., Viroqua, April 2.

The kids fun run, which is a quarter-mile run starting and ending at the sheriff’s office, will begin at 9 a.m. for children 11 and under. New this year for the kids fun run, trophies will be awarded to the first-place winners for both males and females. All participants will receive an award ribbon.

Immediately following the kids fun run, the 5K run/walk will start. Medals will be awarded to the top three place winners in each division for both males and females in the following age divisions: 11 and under, 12-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60 and over.

Registration forms are available on the Vernon County website, www.vernoncounty.org. On the website, go to the sheriff’s office tab, and then the K-9 unit tab to print out the form.

Pre-registration deadline is March 21, which ensures participants receive a 5-K-9 run/walk T-shirt for the registration fee of $20 for adults and $10 for children age 12-17; children 11 and under are free. The registration fee after the March 21 deadline, or on the day of the event, is $25 for adults and $15 for children age 12-17, and does not include the annual T-shirt. Completed forms and checks can be mailed to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office, 1320 Bad Axe Ct., Viroqua, WI 54665.

After the run, participants are welcome to attend demonstrations by K-9 Myk and deputy Adam Malin.

All proceeds will help benefit the K-9 unit, K-9 Myk, for annual maintenance, training and equipment costs. A list of sponsors who help with this event can be found at www.vernonsheriff.com/k9.
