Kind gets primary challenger

Retired high school teacher Myron Buchholz of Eau Claire will challenge U.S. Rep. Ron Kind (D–La Crosse) in the Aug. 9 Third Congressional District Democratic primary.

“Bernie Sanders has called for a political revolution, for average Americans to step up and take our government back from the billionaire class,” said Buchholz. “I’ve decided to answer that call,” Buchholz said.

Bucholz is on the board of the Chippewa Valley Chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union. He is a steering committee member of 15 Now Northwest Wisconsin, which advocates for “living wages.”

Buchholz said he opposes trade deals that send American jobs out of the country and depress wages.

“In 2004, 29 percent of children in Wisconsin were eligible for free or subsidized school lunches,” he said. “By 2014 that figure had risen to 43 percent. Poverty is spreading across Wisconsin and across the country. We need working class champions in Washington, D.C., and that’s who I’ll be.”
