U.S. Rep. Ron Kind (D-WI) March 10 urged Canadian Pacific Railroad and BNSF Railway to consider Wisconsin’s outdoor traditions when conducting business throughout the region.

This request comes after people expressed concerns about their ability to access the Mississippi River for activities such as hunting, fishing, and wildlife watching due to the railroad right of way along the river.

“As an avid sportsman I understand the frustration people are feeling over being unable to access their favorite outdoor spots,” said Kind. “However, we must take safety into account. I am encouraging public stakeholders, local officials, and the railroad companies to work together to find a solution that will give our residents the ability to fully access the Mississippi River and provide for the safety of the public.”
