Shullsburg City approves budget

SHULLSBURG— The Common Council of the City of Shullsburg adopted a budget for 2016 in the amount of $1,020,416, which included the authorization of levying a tax of $291,646 on all taxable property within the city. The overall budget is up $21,030 more than the total for 2015.
    Mayor Gloria Swenson called the  Budget Hearing to order at 6:30 p.m. There was discussion amongst council member and the city clerk, Marsha Einsweiler. No public input was put forth by those in attendance.
    The city has a 2015 equalized value of $56,337,700, up from last year’s figure $52,645,800 and an assessed value of $57,948,300 down from last year’s figure of $58,020,150. Spread on the current tax roll of the city, the levy reflects a mill rate of $21.80 per $1,000 of assessed property, up from last year’s $21.76 figure.
    In other business: the council approved bills; approved the purchase of a truck and peripherals for $41,00.00, that will be used by the street department and includes the sale of a previous truck; approved borrowing $87,000 for improvements on Peace and Union Streets; approved application for seeking formal authorization for Rural Development (Utilities Program- Electric) financing eligibility; approve checking into the Main Street Program; approved $500 for Shullsburg Visitors Guide; approved $330 for advertising in the Lafayette County Visitors Guide; approved operators license for Jenna G. Buss.
