Hats for kids
20141112 161636
Participants include (from left) Gloria Kalavoda, Linda Dressler, Mary Ann Melssen, Anita Carns, Jan Gobin, and Mary Salzman.

The Grant County Hat Project started as a way to provide hats to needy children in Grant County.

In 2013 Linda Dressler started teaching a looming class at Park Place Apartments to expand the number of hats produced. The participants made more than 600 hats this year, with contributions to the Grant County Holiday Project, Platteville Holiday Project, and Clarity Clinic.

One of the participants, Patsy Jentz of Dickeyville, contributed hats to a reservation in South Dakota. One member’s granddaughter teaches school in a disadvantaged area of Janesville, and the group is making a contribution of  hats for her whole classroom.

The group makes hats with donated yarn at Park Place most Wednesdays from 4 to 5:30 p.m. For more information call 642-0910 or email grantcountyhatproject@gmail.com.
