Here’s the scoop on Scoops, Fennimore’s new ice cream shop
Scoops

Fennimore has a new ice cream shop in town as Scoops, located at 1064 Lincoln Avenue, started scooping up ice cream to eager customers on June 16.

Scoops is owned by an “ice cream veteran,” Kris Fry, who along with her husband Greg, owned the Grab A Cone ice cream shop in Montfort for many years, before selling the business in 2022.

After Greg passed away in 2023, and after some time had passed, Kris, along with her family, made the decision to get back into the ice cream business.

“Fennimore hasn’t had an ice cream place for many, many, years,” she explained. “When we owned Grab A Cone, people asked us many times to consider opening a second shop here.”

She went on to say, “I needed to get out in the public and see people, and my family was ready to join in.”

After a friend informed her that the current building was for sale, she came and looked at it right away.

“I looked at it, and I saw the vision,” Kris explained.

Kris stated that the project took about a year, and after some minor remodeling, Scoops was open for business.

Scoops serves Ashby’s Sterling Premium Ice Cream, a slight change from her Grab A Cone days, serving Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream, but with Carr Valley Cheese in town serving that brand,  Kris went with Ashby’s which is getting “rave reviews.”

According to Kris, the shop has been busy from the start, and last weekend’s near record high temperatures “certainly helped too” she went on to say.

“We’re going to be open seven days a week from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m. through Labor Day,” Kris stated. “After Labor Day we’ll back up a little a bit.”
