Kayaker drowns in Pecatonica River

TOWN OF ARGYLE — A 57-year-old Argyle man drowned in the East Branch of the Pecatonica River north of Argyle Sunday night.

The body of Dale R. Jelinek was found today around 8 a.m. approximately one-fourth mile downstream from where an unattended kayak was found anchored one mile north of Argyle Sunday around 8 p.m.

The Lafayette County Sheriff's Department, the Argyle Fire Department and the Department of Natural Resources searched the river this morning. Argyle police also assisted at the scene.

The drowning is under investigation. A sheriff's department news release said "there does not appear to be any criminal activity associated with this death investigation."
