Downtown Platteville the evening of Oct. 26, when The Journal followed Platteville police officers on a Friday night shift.

Platteville police said two brothers were found dead in their separate residences Monday night.

Police said the bodies of Daniel Ruud, 40, and Jason Ruud, 37, were found after police were requested to make welfare checks on the two by a family member.

A police news release said that "Initial indications have revealed both individuals had unique medical issues which may have contributed to or caused their deaths." Autopsies were performed Tuesday, with the final results pending toxicology reports, police said.

The news release said that "Although these individuals were related and the timing of their deaths is very coincidental, their deaths do not at this time appear to be the result of foul play."

Daniel Ruud lived on North Second Street, and Jason Ruud lived on East Main Street, according to an online address search.

Police are investigating.
