Natural gas leak forces evacuations in Hillsboro

The Hillsboro Fire and Police departmentsresponded March 28 to a report of a natural gas leak at the Jim and Dotty Shaw residence in the 1200 block of High Ave. Shaw was driving a steel fence post into the ground when he ruptured a gas line. First responders arrived at approximately 1:55 p.m., along with an Alliant Energy crew from Portage, and were on scene for about three hours. Firefighters diverted traffic from High Ave. between State St. and Darcy Drive, and ordered  nearby residents to evacuate their homes.
