School Bus crashes on Rhein Hollow

WAUZEKA - Area parents and EMS personnel received a shock Tuesday afternoon about 2:00 when a school bus slid off the road in a snowstorm west of Wauzeka. Fortunately, rescue squads were called back when it was learned there were no major injuries and no children on the bus.

According to the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department, on February 17 at 2 p.m., the Department  received a report of a school bus on its side on Rhein Hollow Road about a mile and a half west of Dutch Ridge Road in Wauzeka Township.

Donald Noel, 66, of Steuben, was operating a 2010 Bluebird School Bus eastbound on Rhein Hollow Road. Noel was negotiating a left hand curve when he lost control of the school bus due to the snow-covered roadway. The school bus entered the south ditch and come to rest on its left side.  Noel had just completed dropping off his last student and was en-route back to the Wauzeka bus garage prior to the crash.

Noel claimed no injuries from the crash.  Noel’s passenger, Wannetta Noel, 66, of Steuben, received minor injuries. Noel was later transported by private vehicle to a medical facility to be check out.

Assisting at the scene were the Wauzeka Fire Department, Wauzeka First Responders, the Crawford County Highway Department and Milo’s Towing.
