Tractor driver killed in crash with semi on 81

TOWN OF SEYMOUR — A 65-year-old Darlington man was killed when his tractor was rear-ended by a semi on Wisconsin 81 Thursday afternoon.

Charles T. Lattin was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lafayette County Coroner’s Office after the crash on 81 east of Lafayette County O around 5:20 p.m.

Lattin was driving west on 81 carrying a large bale of corn stocks when his tractor was hit from behind by the semi driven by Timothy D. Klaas, 45, Fennimore, according to the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office.

Klaas was taken by Rural Medical Ambulance to Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County in Darlington, where he was treated and released.

The highway was detoured for several hours during the crash investigation and cleanup.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Darlington Fire Department, Lafayette County Highway Department, and the Wisconsin State Patrol Motor Carrier Inspectors and Reconstruction Team.

The crash remains under investigation.
