DARLINGTON – Three people were injured when an antique tractor on W. Mary Street and Washington Street was accidently in gear when it drove into them, on Sunday, June 11.
Robert Schmid, 69, Argyle suffered the most serious injuries and was flown to Madison by Medflight.
Richard Corley, 39, Darlington suffered moderate injuries and was treated at Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County.
Marion Roberts, 64, Stockton, Ill., suffered minor injuries and was also treated at Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County.
Corley started the antique tractor to get it ready for the parade. He was not on the tractor when he started it but standing next to it and was unaware that the tractor was in gear. The tractor drove forward running over Corley and Schmid. The tractor then struck a float in front of it, causing the front wheels of the tractor to hop up onto the float, where Roberts was, injuring him.
The matter remains under investigation.
The Darlington Police Department was assisted by the Rural Medical Ambulance Service, the Darlington Fire Department and the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office.
