Soldiers Grove Library to reopen soon

The reopening, and subsequent Grand Opening Ceremony, of the Soldiers Grove Public Library has been postponed. It won’t be much longer, but no one can say for sure how long, before the library reopens with full hours and services.

“We really had not planned to be closed this long,” said Soldiers Grove Public Library Director Cele Wolf. “I would have liked to be open much sooner.”

Early estimates had identified the reopening date as early June.

What’s holding it up? Light fixtures or actually the lack of light fixtures.

“The architects can’t really sign off with bare bulbs hanging from the ceiling,” noted library director Wolf. With bare bulbs, the library also cannot get the safety inspector’s approval to open the library to the public.

While the lights were ordered some time ago, the delivery has been held up by the manufacturer. This has left the library in a state of limbo with the rest of construction largely complete.

In the meantime, work to set up the library is ongoing.

The original quarry tile will be cleaned this week, the rest of the new furniture is due in next week when the computer stations can be set up, and the collections are being sorted and re-shelved, a project which began two weeks ago.

The library also received good news recently with approval for an increase in the Community Development Block Grant that will allow the expansion project to supply 40-percent of renovation funds for the passive solar panels on the original portion of the library and community building. This will save the village $14,000 on their project.
