Two injured in motorcycle crash
Minnesota man was wearing helmet, but Onalaska man was not

Two men were injured June 14 in a motorcycle crash in Jefferson township, west of Viroqua.

According to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office, at 1:45 p.m.  John Simacek, age 83, of Apple Valley, Minn., was westbound on State Hwy. 56 when he lost control of his motorcycle.  Simacek went into the ditch and was ejected off his motorcycle.

Another motorcycle driven by Scott Johnson, 45, of Onalaska was following Simacek and was unable to stop. Johnson struck another motorcycle and went into the ditch. Johnson was ejected from his motorcycle.

Both Simacek and Johnson sustained injuries and were transported to Vernon Memorial Hospital in Viroqua for treatment by Tri-State Ambulance.  Simacek was wearing a helmet and Johnson was not.

Assisting the sheriff’s office at the scene was the Viroqua Police Department, the Viroqua Fire Department and Tri-State Ambulance.

The accident remains under investigation by the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office.
