Delores I. Leibert, age 91 of Darlington, passed away on Friday, Jan. 15, 2016 at Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County in Darlington. She was born Dec. 8, 1924 in Lena, Ill., the daughter of Delmar and Alice (Baysinger) Aurand. Delores lived in Massbach, Ill. before moving to Warren, Ill., in 1960. In 1962 she moved to rural Darlington where she lived with her lifelong companion, Eston Schlappi.
Delores is survived by five children: Anita (Mike) Floen of Alton, Iowa, Karen Wilson of Darlington, Sharon (Jim) Simmons of McLeansboro, Ill., Mary Tyson of Warren, Ill., Tammy White of Platteville; one brother: Rev. Paul (Rosemary) Aurand of Galesburg, Ill.; three sisters: Katherine Carroll of Elizabeth, Ill., Delma Oates of Ottowa, Ill., and Carol (Gerald) Zink of Stockton, Ill.; 12 grandchildren, 30 great- grandchildren, and Alice Wand’s special friend: Fritz Lancaster of Wiota. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Leroy; lifelong companion: Eston Schlappi on Oct. 10, 2001; two sisters: Lois Leitzen and Joan Aurand in infancy; three sons-in-law: Alfred Daters, George Tyson and Robert White; two daughters: Alice Wand and Tina Hardy; one brother: Robert Aurand and one grandson: Wyatt White.
Delores enjoyed sewing, fishing, flowers and baking and was known for her overnight buns.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Erickson Funeral Home, 508 Main Street in Darlington with Rev. Craig Simenson of Grace Lutheran Church officiating. Burial was in Union Grove Cemetery in Darlington. A visitation was held on Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Erickson Funeral Home.
