Ellen Jean Peterson, age 88 of Janesville, formerly of Darlington, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2016 at Rock Haven Nursing Home in Janesville. She was born on Nov. 4, 1927 in Jackson County, Wisconsin the daughter of Henry and Luella (Thompson) Larson. She was united in marriage to Raymond J. Peterson on April 26, 1945 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Darlington. Ellen Jean grew up in the Darlington area until moving to Monroe.
Ellen Jean is survived by her four sons: Kurt (Betty) Peterson and Blake (Dorothy) Peterson both of Janesville, Steven Peterson of Camden, Maine, and Raymond James Peterson of Montreal, Canada; and one sister: Lavere. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Raymond; daughter Theresa; and five siblings: Henry, Loyal, LaVonne, Donna, and Maureen.
Ellen Jean was a member of St. Victor’s Catholic Church in Monroe and St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Janesville. She loved to spend her free time listening to music, doing crafts and puzzles, reading, and traveling. Ellen Jean will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her family and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2016 at 11:30 A.M. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, a branch of Our Lady of Fatima Parish (104 E. Harriet St, Darlington) with Rev. John Bosco Pudhota officiating.  Burial was in Holy Rosary Cemetery. A visitation was held Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2016 from 9:30 until the time of services at the church where a rosary was prayed at 9:30 A.M. The Steil-Erickson Funeral Home in Darlington is serving the family. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.ericksonfuneralhome.
