Ernest J. Novy, age 95, of Reedsburg, died peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 6, 2015 with his children by his side in the Reedsburg Area Medical Center.

He was born on March 25, 1920 in Yuba, the son of Albert and Mary (Jindrick) Novy.  Ernest was a 1938 graduate of Hillsboro High School.  On May 20, 1941, he was married to the former Iva S. Snorek.  Ernest owned a trucking business for many years.  He later worked as head custodian for the Hillsboro School District until his retirement.  He was a longtime active member of the Western Fraternal Life Association and a member of the Reedsburg Senior Citizens.  Ernest collected coins and was proud to receive his pilot’s license at the age of 60.  He also enjoyed volunteering at the Sauk County Health Care Center in Reedsburg.

Survivors include his two children: Linda Jasper, of McLean, Virginia and Alan (Linda) Novy, of Oregon; his granddaughter: Jana (Mike) White; his sister: Norma (Merrill) Smith, of Waupun; his brother: Arnold Novy, of Hillsboro; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Iva, on Oct. 6, 2004; his son-in-law: Ken Jasper and his brother: Art Novy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 10, 2015 at Holy Family Catholic Church in LaValle with Father Lorin Bowens officiating.  Interment will be in Czech National Cemetery at Yuba.  There will be a fellowship luncheon at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Voyageur Inn in Reedsburg.  There will be a visitation from 4-6 p.m. on Wednesday at the Hoof Funeral Home in Reedsburg, where a scripture service will be held at 6 p.m.  There will also be a visitation after 10 a.m. on Thursday at the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Sauk County Health Care Center or the Reedsburg Senior Citizens would be appreciated.
