Mary Elizabeth Gustafson, age 85, of Shullsburg, formerly of Hampshire, Ill. passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2017 in Lewisville, Texas. She was born Oct. 19, 1932 in Elgin, Ill. to Robert Myron and Ella Cora (Bauman) Durrenberger. Mary graduated from Elgin High School, Elgin, Ill. in 1950. She married Fred Henry Gustafson on Nov. 29, 1951 in Elgin, Ill. She did clerical work most of her employment years. She retired from Cuba City Medical Center and Nursing Home, Cuba City.
Mary is survived by her husband: Fred Gustafson of Shullsburg; six sisters and one brother as well as two daughters: Sheryl (Fred) Awe of Lewisville, Texas and Lee Ann (Leslie) Langlo of Elgin, Ill.; four grandchildren: Becky (David) Johannsen, Eric (Megan) Langlo, Aaron Awe, and Michael (Elizabeth) Langlo; four great-grandchildren: Kaden Awe, Keera Awe, Reid Johannsen, and Evan Langlo. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mary and Fred supported the Centenary United Methodist Church, Shullsburg. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting. She cherished the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren, creating memories they will forever remember.
A funeral service was held Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Erickson Funeral Home (235 N. Judgement St.) Shullsburg, where Rev. Stanton Bockwoldt of Shullsburg Centenary United Methodist Church officiated. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery, Shullsburg. A visitation was held Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Erickson Funeral Home in Shullsburg.  Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.ericksonfuneralhome.com.
