     PLATTEVILLE —  Junior center Sami Martin dominated in the paint finishing with a game-high 25 points on 7 of 11 shooting and a perfect 11 of 11 from the free throw line to lead Platteville to a convincing 73–59 non-conference victory over visiting Dubuque Hemptead last Monday night, Nov. 19. She also grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds and passed out three assists. Martin, who is drawing Division 1 interest and already has Division 2 scholarship offers from Winona State, Minnesota–Moorhead and University of Mary,  missed last year’s game at Hemptead with an injured ankle.

     “Sami is such a multi-dimensional player of us,” said Platteville head coach Mike Foley. “She is going to be a very special player, and we’re not even seeing all that she has to bring to the court yet.”

     PLATTEVILLE — Monday night Isaiah Oswald and his Hillmen teammates got a measure of revenge. The sweet-shooting senior buried 7 of 11 3-point attempts and scored a career-high 28 points to lead Platteville to a nail-biting 61–60 victory over the visiting Crimson Tide Monday at Platteville High School.

     Oswald’s seventh triple of the night gave the Hillmen a 60–58 lead with 1:35 left and fellow senior Andy Eggers split a pair of free throws to give Platteville a three-point lead with 13 seconds left.

     Edgerton’s Scott Willie was fouled attempting a game-tying 3-pointer with 0.2 seconds left and made the first two free throws, but the potential game-tying attempt rimmed out and the Hillmen claimed their first win of the early season.

     “Isaiah got himself into a rhythm on offense early and his teammates did a really good job of getting him the ball in positions where he could catch it and get his shot off quickly,” said Platteville head coach Mike Huser. “He made a big shot to put us late in the game.

     Platteville will return to action Tuesday night when Wisconsin Heights comes to town.

HONORABLE MENTION (in alphabetical order):

Dawson Bowen, Jr. , G, Lancaster boys basketball

     Bowen buried four 3-pointers, scored a game-high 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Lancaster (1–0) to a 47–44 season-opening victory over visiting River Ridge on Monday night.

Kellen Kenney, Jr., PG, Fennimore boys basketball

     Fennimore point guard Kellen Kenney averaged 13.7 points, a team-high 8.3 rebounds, a team-best 5.3 assists and 2.7 steals in a seven-day span last week to lead the Golden Eagles to a 3–0 start. Kenny made 10 of 11 free throws and finished with 18 points, 11 rebounds and four assists in last Friday’s 71–49 victory over Barneveld. He then had 15 points, six rebounds, eight assists and six steals in Monday’s 70–26 blowout at Highland.

Natalie Luezinger, Jr., F, Black Hawk girls basketball

     Luezinger posted a game-high 27 points, seven rebounds, five steals and three assists to lead Black Hawk (1–0) to an 86–33 blowout win over Potosi/Cassville last Tuesday, Nov. 20.

Kaylee Myers, Sr., F, Darlington girls basketball

     Myers scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Lady Redbirds to a dominating 80–43 win over visiting Belmont last Tuesday night.

Amber Udelhoven, Sr., G, Potosi/Cassville girls basketball

     Udelhoven finished with 22 points, six steals and five assists in Potosi/Cassville’s 79–47 victory over De Soto on Monday night. The bounce-back win helped the Chieftains improve to 1–1 after an 86–33 season-opening loss at top-ranked Black Hawk last Tuesday night.
