Area prep football teams open season with scrimmages

Senior running back Brady Peat and the IowaGrant Panthers will open the season tonight with a home scrimmage against Pecatonica/Argyle, Dodgeville and Belleville.

GAME OF THE WEEK (Aug. 10–16)

PREP FOOTBALL: Preseason scrimmages, Friday, Aug. 11 and Saturday, Aug .12

     High School football teams across the state opened practice last Tuesday and will hold center stage for the next few weeks, before girls swimming, volleyball, cross country and boys’ soccer kick off their seasons in the coming weeks.

     This weekend every area prep football team will have its first chance to measure itself outside of practice against another team, with scrimmages scattered across southwest Wisconsin. Friday night’s and Saturday’s prep football scrimmages are this week’s McDonald’s SWNews4U.com Game of the Week.

     Here is a rundown of tonight’s scrimmages involving area teams.

Friday, Aug. 11

Platteville, Evansville and Monroe at New Glaurs scrimmage, 5 p.m.

Belmont, Richland Center and De Soto at Viroqua scrimmage, 5 p.m.

Darlington, at Lancaster scrimmage, 5:30 p.m.

Cuba City, Poynette and Beloit Turner at River Valley scrimmage (at Spring Green) 5:30 p.m.

Potosi/Cassville at Wauzeka/Steuben scrimmage, 6 p.m.

Dodgeville, Belleville and Pecatonica/Argyle at Iowa–Grant scrimmage, 6 p.m.

Fennimore, Mineral Point and Westby at Prairie du Chien scrimmage, 6 p.m.

Highland and Ithaca at Riverdale scrimmage, 7 p.m.

 

Saturday, Aug. 12

Southwestern, at Benton/Scales Mound scrimmage, 9 a.m.

Boscobel, Cashton, Kickapoo–La Farge, Melrose–Mindoro at River Ridge scrimmage (at Bloomington) 10 a.m.

Shullsburg and Wonewoc–Center at Necedah scrimmage, 10 a.m.
