Plattteville hosts 50th annual Dick McKichan CC Invitational Saturday

Junior Jace Serres and the Platteville Hillmen will host the 50th annual Dick McKichan Cross Country Invitational Saturday morning at UWPlatteville's Memorial Park.

PREP CROSS COUNTRY: The 50th annual Platteville Dick McKichan Invitational, Saturday, Sept. 30,

     Platteville host the 50th annual Dick McKichan Cross Country Invitational Saturday morning at UW–Platteville’s Memorial Park in this week’s McDonald’s SWnews4U.com Game of the week. Twenty-seven of the finest teams from southwest Wisconsin will take part in the biggest prep cross country meet in this part of the state. The festivities will kick off at 8:30 a.m. with a junior high race, followed by the girls’ varsity race at 9 a.m. and the boys’ varsity race at 9:40. There will also be a girls JV race at 10:20, a boys’ JV race at 11 and a free community open 5K at 11:40.

     Platteville coach Rob Serres and the Hillmen encourage the community to, “come down and see some great cross country action.”

     Participating teams include: Albany, Belleville, Brodhead, Cassville, Darlington, Dodgeville, Edgewood, Evansville, Hillsboro, Iowa-Grant, Lancaster, Lodi, Madison Country Day, McFarland, Monroe, Mount Horeb, New Glarus, Prairie du Chien, River Ridge, River Valley, Sauk Prairie, Southwestern, St. Ambrose Academy, Union Grove, Wauzeka-Steuben, Wisconsin Heights and the host Hillmen.

 

PREP FOOTBALL: Lancaster (5–1, 2–0 SWC) at Prairie du Chien (6–0, 2–0 SWC), Friday, Sept. 29, 7 p.m.

     The improving Flying Arrows travel to Prairie du Chien in this week’s gridiron game of the week with outright first-place in the Southwest Wisconsin Conference on the line. Lancaster is coming off a 42–7 win over Richland Center and has won five straight games since a season-opening 18–13 loss to Fennimore. The Blackhawks remained unbeaten with a 21–14 upset of previously unbeaten Platteville last Friday.

 

Cuba City (4–2, 4–0 SWAL) at Mineral Point (5–1, 3–0 SWAL), Friday, Sept. 29, 7 p.m.

     After opening the season with back-to-back losses to Platteville (5–1) and Lancaster (5–1), Cuba City has steamrolled through its first four games of SWAL play. The Cubans can put a strangled hold on the race for this year’s conference championship Friday, but the Pointers have title aspirations of their own. Cuba City flattened visiting Boscobel 61–6 last Friday night, while Mineral Point is coming off a 34–24 victory over Iowa–Grant.
