SWC GYMNASTICS CHAMPIONSHIPS: Platteville/Belmont/Lancaster 1st out of 5 teams

Von Glahn wins all-around, beam and bars to lead Hillmen to SWC title

PRAIRIE DU CHIEN — The Platteville/Belmont/Lancaster gymnastics team had to wait four extra days, but eventually the Hillmen capped their perfect conference season by winning the Southwest Wisconsin Conference title Monday night.

The Platteville co-op posted a season-best score of 137.075 to win the SWC Championships Monday night at Prairie du Chien High School after the conference meet was snowed out Thursday.

The Southwestern co-op finished second with a score of 131.55, followed by Dodgeville/Mineral Point/Iowa–Grant (130.675), Prairie du Chien/Fennimore (126.625) and River Valley/Barneveld (97.525).

PBL senior Brooke Von Glahn won individual conference titles in the all-around SWC (36.1), balance beam (9.25) and uneven bars (8.875). She also  finished third on the floor exercise (9.4) and fourth on the vault (8.575).

Fellow senior Mackanzie Champion placed fourth in the all-around (34.75) out of 16 competitors, after tying for third on the beam (8.95), placing fourth on the bars (8.4), sixth on the vault (8.5) and eighth on the floor (8.9). 

Sophomore Macie Galle finished sixth in the all-around (33.45), second on the vault (9.0), fifth on the bars (8.125), 11th on the floor (8.7) and 12th on the beam (7.625). 

The Hillmen began the meet on the bars and Von Glahn, Champion and Galle all placed in the top five to give the Hillmen the early lead. 

PBL closed the meet with a strong performance on the vault, placing four in the top six to clinch the SWC title. Senior Alaina Stader placed fifth on the vault (8.525) and 14th on the beam (7.3). Sophomore Mady Klemp tied for 12th on the vault (8.325).

Senior Kendra Stastny placed eighth on the bars (7.65) ad 17th on the floor (8.2), while sophomore Hailee Wackershauser tied for 12th on the bars (7.075). Freshman Lainey Popp placed ninth on the beam (8.3) and senior Paige Oyen finished 16th on the floor (8.3).

Junior Brooklyn Murphy placed third in the all-around (35.025), sophomore Ally Bahler was seventh in the all-around (32.9) and freshman Alaina Nelson (31.275) and Keira Haser (29.475) finished 10th and 12th in the all-around to lead the Dodgeville co-op.

Prairie du Chien junior Madilyn Fisher was the conference champion on the vault with a score of 9.2, as the floor with a season-best score of 9.575. She also placed second on the uneven bars (8.525), sixth on the beam (8.55) to place second out of 16 in the all-around (35.85).

Fennimore senior Alyssa Schoepp won a pair of silver medals at Monday’s conference meet with second-place finishes in both the balance beam, with a season-high score of 9.0, and the floor exercise (9.5). Sophomore Taia Dressler placed sixth on the uneven bars with a score of 7.725 and 11th in the all-around (31.1). Junior Alexandria Crary was 13th in the all-around (27.475) for PDC/F.

The Platteville, Dodgeville and Fennimore co-ops will all compete at the eight-team WIAA Division 2 Platteville Division 2 Sectional Friday at 10 a.m. The top two teams, as well as the top five individuals in the all-around and each event will advance to next week's WIAA State Championships.
