Area baseball, softball preseasons in progress

High school baseball pre-season workouts are underway in the area.

Bangor was the Scenic Bluffs Conference (SBC) champion in 2015, edging out Necedah by two games, with Brookwood third.

Two all-conference players from the league champs have graduated,  including Player of the Year Canon O’Heron and Seth Zabel. All-leaguers Matt Brown and Ashton Knutson from Necedah, Matt Stekel of Hillsboro, New Lisbon’s Adam Bell, Charlie Brandt of Royall and Casey Krueger of Wonewoc-Center have also graduated since last year.

Many all-conference players from 2015 are on the field again this spring, including Tommy Crandall of Hillsboro, Luke and Jack Reader of Bangor, Jack Hansen of Brookwood, Jaden Schmitz of Cashton, Noah Herried of Necedah and Bailey Miller of Wonewoc-Center.

Week three of softball preseason nears its end

Week three of the preseason for area high school softball teams is nearing its end.

Cashton was last year’s SBC softball champion with a perfect 14-0 record, followed by second place Wonewoc-Center with Brookwood third.

All-leaguers who have graduated include Maddie Benson of Wonewoc-Center, Abby Washetas of New Lisbon, Sarah Peterson and Brooke Muenzenberger of Cashton, Mackenzie Berg and Amber Breuggen of Brookwood along with Madison Langehr and Player Of The Year Morgan Horstmann of Bangor.

Only six all-leaguers are back on the softball diamond this year, including Adele Hansen and Sabrina Olson of New Lisbon, Mackenzie Sullivan and Lexi Mathis of Hillsboro, Emily Tracy of Wonewoc-Center and Taylor Costello and Pitcher of the Year Lindsay Kramer from Cashton.

All area teams except Hillsboro and New Lisbon are scheduled to play their first game by week’s end.
