Bach wrestles to fourth-place finish at RC Invite
Tigers place eighth out of 13 teams

The Hillsboro wrestling team scored 49 points to finish eighth out of 13 teams at last Saturday’s Richland Center Invitational.

Freshman Dane Bach went 2–2 to earn a team-best fourth-place finish at 145 pounds.

Sophomore Jacob Urban bounced back from a quarterfinal loss by winning three straight matches to place fifth at 170 pounds.

Sophomore Jason Griffiths placed seventh at 106.

Sophomore Dacoda Wells finished eighth at 120, as did sophomore Reece Hammer at 220.

After a first-round bye, Bach pinned Sugar River’s Tyler Varney in the quarterfinals.

Bach then suffered a 12–11 defeat to eventual runner-up Caleb Johnson from Riverdale.

Mauston’s Matt Chambers then handed Bach a 13-6 decision in the third-place match.

Urban suffered an 8–3 loss to Baraboo’s Hermes Duran, but picked up a bye, a major a 15–1 major decision over Marshfield’s Payton Young, and a 9–4 decision over Tomah’s Justice Blackhawk to finish fifth.

Griffiths went 2–2 on the day with a pin and a major decision to place seventh at 106.

Last Tuesday night, the Tigers suffered a 45–24 dual meet loss to visiting Brookwood. It was the Tigers’ (3–1, 1–1 SBC) first dual loss of the season.

The Falcons recorded seven pins and an overtime victory to pull out the 21–point win.

Yobani Mora recorded a pin at 132 as did Jacob Urban at 170, and Jason Griffiths received a forfeit at 113.

Dakota Wells was a 4–3 winner at 120. Jacob Benish earned a 5–4 win at 195.

Coach Snapper Verbsky’s young team is making strides after a 3–4 dual meet record a year ago.

The Tigers will return to action Dec. 29 at the two-day Bi-State Classic in La Crosse.
