Hillsboro clinched the outright Scenic Bluffs Conference title at 13-0 and improved to 20-1 overall Feb. 22 in defeating the visiting Necedah Cardinals, 61-49.

Hunter Stanek scored a season high 18 points to lead the Tigers, and Joe Helgerson scored 17 as well.

Necedah got 20 points from Miles Saylor, but the Cardinals fall to 8-5 in the league and 11-10 overall.

“Winning conference was one of our goals that we set at the beginning of the season,” said Hillsboro head coach Curt Hildreth. “This is the first conference title as a group for these seniors. It is a pretty sweet thing for them, but as we talked about in the locker game after the game there are other goals out there that we want to achieve.”

This is Hillsboro’s first conference title since 2011, when the Tigers shared the league crown with the Royall Panthers.

The team will finish the regular season Thursday night, Feb. 25, with a home game against the SBC rival New Lisbon Rockets, then begin regional play at home next Tuesday, March 1 with Granton.  Game time is 7 p.m.  All tickets are $4.  No passes are accepted.
