Sophomore Mackenzie Sullivan posted a season-high 15 kills, 20 assists and four aces to lead Hillsboro to a narrow 25–20, 25–19, 25–19 victory over Bangor last Tuesday night.

Fellow sophomore Tasha Mitchell added 13 kills and two blocks, while senior Sami Levy chipped in 12 kills and three blocks.

“This was a tight match throughout,” said Hillsboro head coach Mark Sullivan. “We were able to make the plays at the end of each set to get the job done.  Bangor is a scrappy team that never gives up on a ball.

“We had a good hitting percentage at .324 highlighted by Mackenzie Sullivan with 15 kills hitting .700.”

The Tigers closed out the regular season Thursday with another sweep, this time over Royall, 25–21, 25–16, 25–18.

Levy posted 12 kills and four blocks. Sullivan had 11 kills and nine assists, while sophomore Brittany Borchardt made 21 digs.

“This was a back and forth match initially, but we were able to come through with positive plays at the end of each set to secure the win,” said Sullivan. “We played a strong defensive match coming up with 11 total blocks and had another good hitting night with percentage of .342 highlighted by Sami Levy’s 12 kills hitting .455 and Mackenzie Sullivan with 11 kills hitting .579. Our serving percentage of 95.8 with 12 aces was another key component.”

The Tigers (22–9–1) were presented with the Scenic Bluffs Conference championship trophy after the match finishing 13-1 in SBC play this year.

“I am very proud of our team’s effort throughout the season,” said Sullivan.

Hillsboro earned the top seed in its regional and opened WIAA Division 7 regional play Tuesday night at Weston. With a win the Tigers will host either No. 4 Royall or No. 5 Cashton in a regional semifinal match tonight. The regional final is set for Saturday.
