LA CROSSE — Five members of the Hillsboro wrestling team won at least one match at last week’s 57-team Bi-State Classic at the La Crosse Civic Center.

The Tigers scored 43 team points and finished 10th out of 18 teams in Division 3 of the two-day event.

Stratford crowned three champions, had one runner-up, one third-place and one fifth-place finish to easily claim the D3 team title with a whopping 321.5 points.

Hillsboro’s Scenic Bluffs Conference mates New Lisbon (122) and Cashton (120), finished a distant second and third.

Sophomore Jason Griffiths (13–5) scored a team-high 11 points going 3–2 at 113 pounds, but he did not place.

Griffiths pinned New Lisbon’s Dalton Lee 57 seconds into his first match, then pinned Lodi’s Jacob Harland late in the second period.

After a third-round loss Hudson’s Drew Glabon, Griffiths picked up his third pin in four matches, 12 seconds into the second period against Auburndale’s Trayton Weister.

Griffith’s tournament ended with a consolation loss to Burlington’s Zack Weiler.

Senior Jacob Benish (9–6) went 3–2 at 195 pounds. Benish notched a first-round pin before he was sent to the consolation bracket.

He then pinned Lancaster’s Theron Schindler and scored an 8–5 win over Mauston’s Edward Hillman before a consolation loss ended his tournament.

Freshman Dane Bach went 2–2 at 145, as did sophomore Jacob Urban at 170, and freshman Jake McCoic at 182.

Coach Snapper Verbsky’s Tigers will travel to Royall for a SBC dual meet Thursday night before taking part in the Kickapoo/La Farge Invitational on Saturday.
