Tiger wrestlers take their lumps at Bi-State Classic

LA CROSSE — Only three of Hillsboro’s varsity wrestlers recorded a win over the weekend at the two-day 32nd annual Bi-State Classic in La Crosse.

Senior Max Sebranek turned in the Tigers’ best individual performance placing 10th at 182 pounds.

Sebranek (12–6) went 5–3 with a pin, a tech, a medical forfeit and two regular decisions.

He received a medical forfeit from Alex Goergen of Caledonia/Houston/Spring Grove to reach the ninth-place match, but ended his tournament run with a 4–2 overtime loss to Burlington’s Hegeman Tiedt (17–3).

Sophomore Nolan Hammer went 3–2 with three pins, but did not place at 145 pounds.

After a first-period pin of Mount Horeb/Barneveld’s Austin Stram, Hammer’s tournament ended with an 18–2 technical fall loss to Iowa–Grant’s Luke Nowak, who went on to place 10th.

Fellow sophomore Dylan Thew went 1–2 at 220 pounds.

He pinned River Valley’s Tennessee Hatfield before ending his tournament with a first-period pin to Emil Walleser of La Crosse Aquinas.

Mitchell Morris (113), Mitch Beckwith (120), Logan Rohn (126), Katie Blaha (132), Justin Muller (138), Tyler Seeley (152), Warren Paulson (170), Jacob Benish (195) and Christian Beyer (285) all went 0–2 in the tournament.

Hillsboro will return to action Thursday, Jan 9 with a home SBC dual against Cashton. On Saturday, Jan. 11 the Tigers will participate in the Kickapoo Lee Griffin Invitational.
