Two members of the North Crawford Girls Track Team have advanced to the state meet.
Junior Haley Nelson advanced for the second time in three years in the high jump with a jump of 5' 0" placing second at the WIAA Sectional Track Meet held at Bangor last Friday.
Nelson has been a consistent five-foot jumper all year, while jumping 5' 2" twice this year. The fact that she didn't have a miss until five feet put her ahead of the other jumpers and is very important again this week as misses are important to where you are seated overall.
Nelson just missed out last year at Boscobel, as she was in a jump-off for fourth place and ended up in fifth and just missed going to the state meet. She is more confident this year, since she has already been to the state meet as a freshman.
Maggie Schellhorn followed with advancing in the pole vault with a vault of 8' 6" her best vault of the year and just missing her vault at nine feet as she just hit the bar as she came down.
Schellhorn was clean through 8' 6"-a PR for the year, leaving her tied for third place, but ahead of five other vaulters who had misses at or below 8' 6.
This is Schellhorn’s second trip to the state meet, as she went last year as a freshman where she made her vault at eight feet. Then, the competition was moved indoors due to rain and she just didn't get back on track. As with Nelson, the experience of being at the state meet before has given Schellhorn a lot of confidence going into the state meet as she is putting everything together at the right time.
Other girls participating at sectional were the 4x800 of Nathasa Swiggum, Asley Ingle, Nina Zastrow, and Willa Dworschack in 8th place with a PR of 11:06.13, 4x400 Natasha, Nina, Willa, and Maggie 4:34.84 for 12th, Willa Dworschack ran the 300hurdles in 53.22.
