ONTARIO — Sophomore Dacoda Wells finished third out of 85 runners to lead the Hillsboro boys cross country team to a third-place team finish at Saturday’s Brookwood Invitational.

Wells continued his steady improvement as a first-year cross country athlete finishing a season-best third-place with a time of 19:28.

Riverdale junior Brian Mathews blew away the field with a winning-time of 17:55. North Crawford senior Jacob Bransky finished second at 18:17.

But the host Brookwood Falcons won the boys’ team title with 38 points. Westby finished second with 59, followed by Wells and the Tigers (78).

Junior Zach O’Hair (20:30) and freshman Dawson Cordner (20:33) ran together and finished 12th and 13th respectively.

Senior Skyler Fisher placed 32nd (21:33), and sophomore Drew Bisarek finished 35th (21:44) to round out Hillsboro’s scoring team. Jason Griffiths placed 36th at 21:49, and Cameron Haas finished 67th at 25:26.

The shorthanded Hillsboro girls finished sixth out of nine scoring teams with 138 points.

Brookwood completed the team sweep, dominating runner-up Westby 40–89.

Senior Destiny Shore again paced the Lady Tigers, finishing 13th in 24:56. Freshman Paige Stull placed 17th at 25:16.

Amy Salisbury (41st, 28:20), Belinda Griffin (44th, 28:31), Lydia Westedt (54th, 29:55), Jaline Attignol (70th, 33:08) and Kelly Parish (74th, 32:22) filled out the rest of the Hillsboro girls lineup.

The Tigers are still without sophomore Annie Haas, a 2014 state qualifier and the defending Scenic Bluffs Conference individual champion. Haas is still recovering from a injury sustained during track season in May. There is no time table for her return.

Hillsboro traveled to Holmen on Tuesday and will next travel to Fennimore on Saturday.
