The 2017 cross country season will begin the 50th year of cross country at Darlington High School.  The season officially begins with the 38th annual Alumni meet which is being held on Saturday, August 26th.
Coach Steve Karrmann had 19 runners on the first team in the fall of 1968 and the races that were 2.2 miles long, were held at the golf course.
The annual race pits the current Darlington High School runners against the graduates of DHS.  A 5K walk for those who would like to be involved, but don’t want to run, will begin at 7:45. The girl’s race will start at 8:30 with the boy’s race to follow at about 9:15.  Everything will take place at the DHS cross country course which is located on the school grounds. All former DHS graduates and runners and their families are invited to attend and participate.  Relay teams are encouraged for those who want to run, but maybe not the entire 5K.
Following the races there will be a brunch in the high school cafeteria followed by a short program in the high school gym, where members of the first cross country team will be introduced. There will be posters, photo albums, uniforms, and other items of the past seasons on display, which will bring back memories for all former runners and their families. Everyone who has been involved with the cross country teams over the years in any way is encouraged to attend.
