Sophomore Emma Liddicoat slams a kill in IowaGrant's victory over Fennimore.

Sophomore setter Taylor Liddicoat served up eight points, including four aces, and senior Kylie Moneypenny hammered home four kills in the opening set as Iowa–Grant used a quick start to set the tone in last Tuesday’s SWAL volleyball match at Iowa–Grant.

The Panthers went on to win the match 25–13, 14–25, 25–18, 25–18.

Despite the easy victory in the opening set, coach Marla Simon’s Panthers fell out of sync in game two and went down without much of a fight.

“Set two makes you pull your hair out, as we struggled serve receiving and not clicking on offense,” explained Simon. “I’m not sure why the other side of the net makes a difference.”

The last two sets ended up being more of a battle but consistent serving from juniors Haley Yelinek and Kristin Bingham and Liddicoat setting up Moneypenny and Bingham at the net I–G was able to prevail.

Moneypenny finished with 11 kills, Bingham added six kills and four aces, and Yelinek chipped in five kills, eight digs and five aces. Taylor Liddicoat passed out 19 assists and served five aces.

Sophomore Emma Liddicoat finished the night with five kills and six digs, while senior Taylor Jackson led the team with 10 digs.

“It was still kind of an ugly match for us,” said Simon. “It’s always tough coming off our own tournament weekend.  Hopefully we will be much better versus Cuba City and Southwestern.”

Iowa–Grant had the rest of last week off and returned to action Tuesday when SWAL-leading Cuba City (22–3, 6–0 SWAL) came to town. The Panthers will next host second-place Southwestern (14–1, 5–1) on Thursday.
