Boscobel wrestlers place at conference tournament

BOSCOBEL - Several Boscobel wrestlers were able to place at the Saturday, Feb. 6 SWC-SWAL conference meet in Mineral Point.

Placing in fourth for their weight classes were Preston Baker (182) and Casey Frey (195).

Baker received a bye in his first match, which he followed with a win over Stephen Ronnfeldt of Prairie du Chien/Wauzeka-Steuben by fall, 2:45. He lost by decision, 5-2, to Conrad Blosch of Darlington/Black Hawk in the Semifinals followed by a loss in the third place match to Sawyer Wallace of Mineral Point by fall, 1:51.

Frey also received a bye in the first match. He followed that with a Quarterfinal win over Theron Schindler of Lancaster by decision, 8-6. Frey took the loss in the semifinal match against Trevor Troxel of Riverdale by fall, 1:06, and again in the third place match to Kyle Juedes of Mineral Point by fall, 1:06.

Taking fifth was Chase Beinborn in the 145-weight class. Beinborn won the first championship round over Tristan Prater of Belmont/Platteville by fall, 4:33. In the Quarterfinals, he fell to River Valley’s Gavin Wipperfurth, 5:48. This was followed by a wins in the second consolation round over Morgan Sieppel of Lancaster by decision, 10-5, the consolation semifinals over Alex Busch of Cuba City/Benton/Southwestern by decision, 5-1, and the fifth place round over Caleb Novak of Darlington/Black Hawk by sudden victory-1 5-3.

Brandon Mindham (120) took sixth. He received a bye in round one. He fell to Riley Blair of Fenninore in the Quarterfinals. Mindham won the consolation semifinal round over Noah Pennekamp of Iowa-Grant/Highland by fall, 1:32, only to fall in the fifth place match to Curtis Cox of Mineral Point by fall, 2:58.

Dakota Frazier (132) placed sixth. Frazier lost the first match to Nick Rogge of Prairie du Chine/Wauzeka-Steuben followed by a bye in the first consolation round. He won the second consolation round against Maguire Fitzgerald of Fennimore by decision, 11-5. Frazier followed this by a second win in the consolation semifinal over Issac Grunow of Dodgeville by major decision, 13-2. Heading into the fifth place match, Frazier fell to Grady Reilly of Darlington/Blackhawk, 3:37.

Also placing was Tanner Basset, who took seventh place in a match over Zach Swiggum of Prairie du Chien/Wauzeka-Steuben by fall, 3:36, and Jacob Bray in eighth, losing to Zach Cummings of Mineral Point in the seventh place match by fall, 1:43.

Overall, the Bulldogs placed 10th out of the 13 teams competing with 101 points.
