MUSCODA - The Riverdale Chieftains won their fourth straight game with a 12-1 win over the Boscobel Bulldogs on Friday night.

The Chieftains pounded out 14 hits in the game and received another strong pitching performance from Trevor Troxel to pick up the win.

The Chieftains came out swinging in this one. On a hot afternoon, Bradon Roen got them going with a lead off walk. Trevor Troxel followed with a long single to right center that scored Bradon. Trevor Johnson followed with an RBI single to bring in Troxel.  Caleb Johnson followed with a pop single to right center to drive in another run. Elijah Cannon slammed one by the short stop to load the bases. Michael Schaefer then ripped an RBI single to right center and it was 4-0. Cody Sperry hit a smash to second to knock in a fifth scoring run.

“That is the type of start we needed; we came out ready to go,” said Coach Curt Thompson.

After a scoreless second, Riverdale added on four more runs in the third. Cannon got them going with a blast to deep right for a triple. Schaefer promptly delivered an RBI single to bring Cannon in. After Sperry walked and Ethan Haffner dropped down a great sac bunt, the Chieftains had runners on second and third. Roen whistled a base hit to left to score a pair for 8-0. Troxel singled and T. Johnson walked, leaving the bases loaded. C. Johnson drilled an RBI single and it was 9-0.

Meanwhile, Boscobel got their only run of the game in the third. A hit batter and two singles made it 9-1.

In the fourth, Riverdale added two more runs. With one out, Sperry walked and Haffner reached on an error. With two outs, Roen tattooed a shot to left center to drive in a pair making it 11-1.

The Chieftains added one more in the fifth. T. Johnson ripped a double down the left field line to get them going. Johnson scored when Cannon smashed a shot off the pitcher to make it 12-1.

“It was nice to hit the ball hard,” said the coach. “Hopefully we can carry this into next week.”

Meanwhile, starter Troxel could smell the win and quickly set down the final seven  hitters he faced to pick up the win.  

“It was a very nice win for us,” said Coach Thompson. “Trevor pitched well and the bats are coming around.”

The Chieftains are now 11-5 on the season and 7-2 in conference and have two big games next week. Coach Thompson

“We are getting better each game,” said the coach. “We need to continue to play with intensity, the season is moving quickly and we need to keep our focus as the games grow in importance. "
