MUSCODA – The Chieftain volleyball team came out of Homecoming week with a record of 1-1.  In two matches, nine sets of volleyball were played in scrappy, defensive battles.

The ladies traveled to Mineral Point on Tuesday where they lost the first set 15-25, came back strong in the second and third 25-17, 27-25, then serve receive broke down, causing the offense to become stagnant, which resulted in 18-25 and 8-15 losses.  The ladies made great gains again but continue to ride the rollercoaster of highs and lows.  Statistically, the girls played a fantastic match and tallied 93 digs as a team.  Great defense, which also means we weren’t aggressive enough offensively and the 50 team kills was less than what Mineral Point put away.  Overall individual statistics from the night were:

Aces: Amanda Meister 5, Macey Klebesadel 1, Callie Arellano 1, Macy Curtis 1, Emily Drone 1, Quinn Fitzgerald 1

Kills: Amanda Meister 18, Emily Drone 13, Callie Arellano 8, Ryenna Daly 5, Tatum Johnson 2, Macy Mau 2, Macey Klebesadel 2

Assists: Amanda Meister 24, Emily Drone 3, Macy Mau 2, Macey Klebesadel 2, Ryenna Daly 2, Callie Arellano 1

Blocks: Macey Klebesadel 3, Amanda Meister 1, Emily Drone 1

Digs: Amanda Meister 30, Macey Klebesdael 20, Callie Arellano 12, Emily Drone 12, Quinn Fitzgerald 10, Macy Curtis 7, Ryenna Daly 1, Macy Mau 1

Thursday night the Lady Chieftains hosted the Darlington Redbirds; they also took a moment to honor their parents and the three graduating seniors: Amanda Meister, Macy Curtis, and Emily Drone.

The ladies had some jitters beginning the match, but overall the consistent lack of communication propelled them to a set one loss of 17-25.  After regrouping and mounting a stronger offensive attack the ladies pulled out a victory: 25-14, 25-22, 25-21.  It wasn’t the prettiest win, but a win is a win. There will be nights where it isn’t about the attacking and defense necessarily, but more about the team that makes less errors getting the “W.”

Statistics for the match:

Aces: Amanda Meister 5, Tatum Johnson 2, Ryenna Daly 1, Quinn Fitzgerald 1

Kills: Emily Drone 11, Amanda Meister 9, Macey Klebesadel 7, Macy Mau 4, Callie Arellano 3, Ryenna Daly 3, Tatum Johnson 3

Assists: Amanda Meister 23, Ryenna Daly 4, Macy Mau 2

Blocks: Amanda Meister 3, Macey Klebesadel 1, Macy Mau 1
