BARNEVELD – The Darlington Redbirds boys’ golf team continues to hold onto their third-place position in the league standings after finishing fourth as a team at the fourth SWAL Golf Meet of the season hosted by Barneveld High School at the Deer Valley Golf Course on Monday, April 30.
The SWAL golfers didn’t let the unseasonable cool temperature get to them as five players posted sub-40 scores paced by Cuba City’s Alex Stewart, who fired a one-over 37 to lead the league-leading Cubans to a first-place finish with a score of 158.
Southwestern was second at 169, followed by Mineral Point at 175 and the Redbirds with a 178.
Senior Zach McArthur led the ‘Birds with a 43, while Alex Schulte and A.J. Brandt each carded a 44 on the day. Chase Tuescher rounded out the team scoring with a 47.
At Mineral Point, on Thursday, April 26, the Redbirds turned in their best performance of the young season by carding a team score of 163 to finish second at the Dodge-Point SWAL Golf Meet.
Zach McArthur shot a one-over 37 to lead the Redbirds, while A.J. Brandt followed with a three-over 39. Alex Schulte scored a 43 and Chase Tuescher followed with a 44 for the ‘Birds.
Cuba City ran away with the team title with a score of 150.
Saturday’s River Valley Invitational was washed out due to rain.
Darlington has SWAL meets at Argyle’s Yellowstone Golf Course on Thursday, May 3, and at Cuba City’s Cole Acres Country Club on Monday, May 8.
