BOSCOBEL - The Boscobel boys’ and girls’ track and field teams traveled to Riverdale for the conference meet Tuesday, with solid performances by both teams.

The girls took fourth with conference champions that included Mackenzie Kauffman in the 1600 and 3200, Sydney Haines in the pole vault, and the 4x800 relay team consisting of Molly Pegram, Faith Glasbrenner, Mackenzie Kauffman, and Rachel Davis.

The boys won the conference meet. Conference champions include Brandon Mindham (200), Dakota Kauffman (800, 1600, and 3200), and Wyatt Roth (shot put). The boys won the meet due to some incredible performances from Ethan Lucas (second place in the shot put), Chase Kull (fourth in the 100, third in the 200, and third in the 400), and Seth Laxton (second in the 400).

“It only seemed fitting to have the boys win the competition, because the meet ended in Boscobel,” explained Coach Mark Ekiss. “After warmups began for the pole vault in Riverdale, one vaulter's pole went through the plant box, creating a hole, which the coaches determined was unsafe to compete in. The coaches met and agreed that competition would resume in Boscobel after completion of all other events in Riverdale. At the end of the meet, all the teams with pole vaulters were loaded into buses and traveled to Boscobel where we opened our pits to resume competition. The competition came down to the final event as the boys edged out Riverdale by 4 points.

“It was a hard fought victory on both sides, and I am very proud of how hard the boys and girls competed at the meet.”

Boscobel High School will host the WIAA Division 3 Regional Championship on May 23. Sectionals will be held at Bangor on May 26.
