LANCASTER — Their second meeting of the season ended with the same result last Tuesday evening, as the Lancaster varsity softball team defeated Richland Center, 8-3, and picked up their second conference victory of the season.

With their two wins over the Hornets, the Flying Arrows sit at 2-5 in the Southwest Wisconsin Conference, and are 3-13 overall. Richland Center fell to 0-5 in league play.

In Tuesday night’s contest, both teams pounded out 12 hits and each team committed two errors.

Lancaster got a three-run home run from sophomore Morellia Galvan in the bottom of the second inning, which gave the Arrows an early 3-0 lead.

They then got an RBI double in the third inning from senior Kennedy Mezera to score junior Carly Chadd, making the score 4-1 in favor of the Arrows.

Lancaster then opened the game up with a four-run rally in the sixth inning, getting an RBI single from Eden Connelly and a two-run triple from Kera McCarthy.

On the night, Morellia Galvan went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs, while Connelly was also 3-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI.

The Arrows finished the game with five hits, getting two from Connelly, who also scored a run in the sixth inning.

Riley was given the loss after allowing four earned runs off eight hits, striking out four Platteville batters and walking three.

In non-conference action the following Friday night, Lancaster was handed a 5-3 loss from visiting Riverdale, who blasted 11 hits to the Arrows’ five.

Again, Lancaster had one big inning, scoring all three of their runs in the bottom half of the second.

Of Lancaster’s five hits, Mezera had two and scored one run, while Morellia Galvan, Kayla Zenz and Sydney Taylor each had RBIs.

Riley again took the loss in the circle, allowing four earned runs off 11 hits, while issuing one strike out and one walk.
