Platteville junior Skye Digman placed seventh in the Division 2 girls discus Saturday and finished 10th in the D2 girls at this years WIAA State Track and Field Meet.

LA CROSSE — The Platteville track and field team concluded another successful season at the WIAA State Track and Field Meet Friday and Saturday in La Crosse.

Junior Skye Digman led the Hillmen with a seventh-place finish in the Division 2 girls’ discus Saturday with a throw of 123’5” a day after placing 10th in the D2 shot put (38’9¾”) Friday morning.

“In the discus, with a big throw, Skye was hoping to make it to the podium but came up one place short,” said Platteville head coach Rob Serres. “She now has some fuel for next year.  Skye had a great season and she is one of the finest throwers in the State of Wisconsin.”

Platteville freshman Makayla Rooney cleared 5’2” in the D2 girls’ high jump in her first appearance at state on Friday and finished 11th place after tie-breakers (number of total misses).

“Makayla was called the X-factor by a couple of the coaches at the state meet,” said Serres. “She is a great jumper, and she has the ability to upset many of the veteran jumpers at state. Makayla jumped 5’2” which is a great jump, but it took 5’4” to make the podium this year. We look forward to some exciting seasons ahead.”

Senior Dan Ieslin capped his decorated Platteville career with a ninth-place finish in the D2 boys’ 1,600 on Saturday with a time of 4:32.42.

“Dan’s legs weren’t quite there for that final race,” said Serres. “He got out and got into a great position, but, just couldn’t hold the pace on that given race on that given day. Dan is one of the finest middle distance runners in the state, and we’re proud of him for all he has given to PHS.”

Iselin also teamed with sophomores Jace Serres, Liam Reinicke and Alex Sonsalla to place 15th in the D2 boys 4x800 relay (8:21.79). Iselin finished his career as a two-time state qualifier in both the 1,600 and 4x800 relay.

The Platteville quartet of senior Nick Mewhirter, juniors Donovan Blevins and Mike Musarra, and sophomore A.J. Barner also placed 15th in the 4x100 relay with a season-best time of 44.45 seconds.

“This was a great season,” added Serres. “The kids were strong from start to finish. We had a lot of character growth with many of the athletes. The girls and boys won the Lancaster Invitational and Platteville Relays, and both they went on to win the conference championships in both the girls and boys. The boys also won the regional and we sent a nice contingent to state. It was a great bunch of kids and we will miss the seniors.”
